Knarley Roots with Mini Falls and Water Fountain from back in the Day… Nojoqui Falls, CA

Here are more shots from our No-HO-We Falls visit. Walking back from the Falls I saw this cool mini falls. The roots formed the sides and steps of this mini falls. It was a very cool and relaxing place to chill for a few minutes.

On the way out I say this awesome rock water fountain from back in the day. It look’s like a gravity pipe was run from the base of the falls to this fountain from back in the day…

Nojoqui Falls – The Little Dripper

Nojoqui Falls – The Little Dripper

I had the opportunity to visit this Cool Place in the Santa Ynez Hills called Nojoqui Falls. It’s Pronounced No-HO-Wee Falls. A vernal Fall (it only flows when it rains or snow melts), it’s the perfect place to visit with all the storms this Year in California. The local’s call these storms, “The Pineapple Express” cause they come from Hawaii. This morning the Falls were blasting like I have never seen or heard of before:

On a day like today the stream was gushing and The Falls were Blasting …

I had to stand back 30 or 40 feet just to keep the lens clear to get this shot.

Here is Parks Web Site: http://www.sbparks.org/Scripts/ParksDetail.asp?ParkID=14

The Nojoqui Park is beautiful. There is this fun trail that meanders back and forth along the stream flowing from the falls. Lots of Wooden Bridges, Mini Falls and tributaries to the main stream flow all around you. At the beginning of the trail there is this old Rock Water fountain from about 75 Years ago. All very Cool.

It takes about 10 minutes to hike up. It’s not handicap friendly.

More Pictures of our visit to follow another Day.

The Mott Adobe Ruins, Fireplace, Malibu Creek State Park

The Mott Adobe Ruins, Fireplace, Malibu Creek State Park

The Malibu Creek State Park has a wide and Varied History. It’s abundant water, Wildlife and Forests make it a great place to live in the relativity dry California landscape. The Native Chumash Thrived here for Millennia. In the Early 1900′s part of the present day park was purchased by a group of wealthy businessmen who built Crags Country Club. Many of these Country club members built Homes here.

Johnny Mott a famous LA attorney built his Adobe here along Malibu Creek in 1911. Here he often played host to his good friend and travel companion, President Herbert Hoover. The Mott adobe was also used in the Movie “Viva Zapata!”  released in 1952, starring Marlon Brando. Here is a map of Area:

Over the years it has fallen into disrepair and only a small part of one wall and the fireplace remain. Around the fireplace you can see stone flooring and remains of the brick mortar foundation.

On the day we were there, the sun broke thru the clouds and gave the remains an eerie glow…

Master of Camouflage, The Red Admiral Butterfly , Lake Seminole Park, FL

When ever I see a butterfly, I have to follow it and take pictures. The erratic way they flutter about, their beauty, variety of shapes and colors. The perfect subject for photography.

The Red Admiral butterfly is found everywhere in the world. The only place they do not do well is were the winters are especially cold. I find them fascinating because one side is these beautiful colors, the other perfectly matches the pine trees. Follow one and they disappear like Houdini.

The top Photograph is of the Red Admiral Butterfly perfectly camouflaged on a pine at Lake Seminole park. The bottom photograph is just seconds before he decided to hide from lens…
